Elvaco NB-IoT platform is now battery operated

For the past two years, Elvaco has supplied utilities with NB-IoT connectivity for Landis+Gyr thermal energy meters.

Elvaco has always differentiated from other suppliers by being in the forefront of standardization and enabling options for the utility regarding choice of supplier of both connectivity and systems. Our NB-IoT platform takes this one step further by utilizing LWM2M for device management, MQTT-SN for payload delivery and M-Bus as payload. This result in a totally standardized product/solution ready to use in any environment. To secure the integrity of data and communication, DTLS is chosen as security solution.

In comparison to other LPWAN technologies, such as LoRaWAN and WM-Bus, battery operated NB-IoT solutions require more of the product to support the demand of lifetime expectancy. During the last year - enormous effort, rigorous testing and extensive field trials have resulted in a solution where the CMi6110 can be reliably battery operated and support hourly values delivered on a daily basis.

Close cooperation with Landis+Gyr and various NB-IoT network providers has resulted in a product with long battery lifetime and with a functionality that is accepted by network providers regarding coexistence in the NB-IoT network environment.

To summarize the above, we are excited to support utilities in the transition to a digitalized meter data environment independent of prerequisites.
